State sales tax holiday set for Aug. 11-13

The Texas comptroller's office announced the annual Texas sales tax holiday is set for the second weekend of August. The tax free weekend exempts most school-related items including clothing, footwear, backpacks and school supplies priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes.

The tax holiday includes items sold online, by telephone or mail. Shoppers can save an average of about $8 for every $100 spent. The annual tax break weekend has been held annually since 1999.
