Texas Panhandle weather can be unpredictable. Here's some lightning safety tips for our readers.

Hutchinson County continues to enjoy plenty of rain this summer. Weather reports from local folks like Charles Gillingham tell us we've received nearly 6.5 inches of rain so far this month. That's wonderful, but those same thunderstorms bring plenty of lightning too. Here's a few lightning safety tips provided by our friends at Texas Co-op Power.

Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. We all know lightning can cause serious injuries and death. Follow these tips to lessen the chances of a lightning accident.

Just over a year ago on July 7, 2016 in downtown Dallas, five officers and nine others were injured when a black sniper opened fire during a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest. The sniper was later identified as a 25-year-old Army veteran who used a semi-automatic assault rifle to pick off his victims that awful night.

Summer has hit the Texas Panhandle. Our long, hot days can stress plants. Country Magazine offers three tips to quench their thirst. First, early morning and very late afternoon are the best times to water. Secondly, water the roots not the plant since the roots do most of the drinking. Finally, soil dries out quickly in a container, so water daily or more often if the top layer of soil is dry.
