Former Borger mayor passes away

A former mayor of Borger passed away last Thursday.
Jerry Thomas McClure served eight years on the Borger City Council from 1970 to 1980, and served two terms as the Mayor of Borger.
During his time in the service of Borger, he served three years on the board of the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission and one year on the Governor’s Board of Directors under Governor Bill Clements.
He was a Borger Jaycee, a boxing coach for three years, served Meals on Wheels and was a deacon in the Fritch Assembly of God Church.
He also served as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, two sons Jerry Wayne McClure of Hobbs, N.M., and Caleb Thomas McClure of the home; daughter Lisa McClure of Fritch, two grandsons, Jared and Logan; two granddaughters, Whitney and Lindsay; two great-grandsons, Davy and Mason; and two brothers, Taylor McClure of Rockwall and Bill McClure of Norman, Okla.
Services for McClure will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Fritch with Rev. Justin Unwin, pastor of the First Assembly of God in Fritch and Rev. Darrell Trout, pastor of Harvest Time Church in Midland, officiating.
Interment for McClure will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be sent to the Assembly of God Church, PO Box 1494, Fritch, Texas 79036.
