BISD board approves action on personnel

June 13, 2011

Five resignations, hiring of new BMS assistant principal finalized

The Borger ISD board of trustees acted on personnel matters during its regular meeting Tuesday.
Probationary 10 month contracts were approved for Kristina Brittain and Tia Speed. Brittain, who has been working as a part-time science teacher at Gateway Elementary, will now be teaching full-time there. Speed will be coming to Borger ISD as a teacher at Borger Intermediate School.
The board also approved action on a term contract of 10 months for Donna Hertel. Hertel, who has been a math teacher at Borger High School, will be moving to Borger Middle School to teach the same subject.
Action was taken as well to rescind the term contract offer of 10 months to Michael Cano, who has been a teacher at BMS.
He was then offered a 11-month term contract as the new assistant principal at BMS. Cano will be filling the shoes of Debi Duso, who retired at the end of this school year.
Action was taken to receive resignations from five Borger ISD employees, which were Mary Cox, a physical education teacher from Paul Belton Early Childhood Center; Lauren Hays, a teacher at Gateway Elementary; Lisa Moltz, an eighth grade teacher at BMS; Mike Muscatell, boys’ soccer coach at BHS; and Jeff Quisenberry, a math teacher and coach at BHS.
On Monday morning, Superintendent Chance Welch said that Athletic Director Rusty Purser plans to present some potential plans to improve the Borger football field at the board’s regular meeting this July.
Welch said some of the plans Purser plans to discuss with the board include improvements on the visitors’ side of the field and an indoor all-purpose facility that could be used for all sports for training purposes.
He also said Purser plans to visit with the board about the potential for field turf, as well as some long-range plans. Welch said that this entire project would be covered strictly by fund raising, and no funds would come out of the district’s budget.
In other business, the board also approved action on two donations, one in the amount of $300 from the Borger Tennis Booster Club for the BHS tennis program; and a $1,500 donation from ConocoPhillips in $1,500.
Board members attending the meeting were Johnny Rusten, board president; Robert Bradley, board vice-president; Elaine Feese, Les Sharp, and Dr. Kent Gray.
David Brandon, board secretary; and board member Todd Harris were not in attendance at the meeting.
