Assistance needed in solving BNH rack theft

October 22, 2012

The Borger News-Herald is seeking the help of its readers and the public in solving a newspaper rack theft.
Susan Spurlock-Rawlins, circulation manager for the BNH, said that sometime between 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, and 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, Laundry Solutions, located at Third and Harvey, was the scene of a robbery.
The Borger Police Department is currently working with the BNH and Laundry Solutions in locating a stolen BNH newspaper rack. The rack is valued at $575.
The theft of the rack is a class-A misdemeanor, Spurlock-Rawlins said. Many of the racks are under camera surveillance.
She also said there has been a rash of newspaper thefts from BNH racks in the past several months. Newspaper rack theft is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison.
"When a person buys one paper for 50 cents or 75 cents, it means ONE paper only," Spurlock-Rawlins said. "Is a handful of 'free' newspapers worth a year in jail?"
Those with information can call Spurlock-Rawlins at the BNH at 273-5611 or the BPD at 273-0930.
